Hi! My name is Alice, and I’m the creator of Bilingual Beach Adventures
I grew up in North Norfolk, surrounded by some of the most beautiful and diverse beaches in the UK. My favourite place is Holkham Beach, where wide sandy shores and wild grassy dunes are full of surprises, from birds and horses to jellyfish and sand dwelling creatures. The natural beauty and playful spirit of Holkham deeply shaped my love for storytelling and illustration.
From a young age, I was passionate about languages and art, but growing up in rural Norfolk meant access to bilingual children’s books was very limited. Most foreign-language books I encountered were bought during school trips abroad and were far too advanced for young readers. This inspired my mission behind Bilingual Beach Adventures: to create fun, accessible bilingual books that children can truly read, enjoy, and understand.
While studying Mandarin Chinese and Spanish at university, I discovered a passion for storytelling through the study of Chinese folklore and oral traditions. Since then, I’ve pursued children’s book writing professionally, developing my illustration skills through intensive Chinese ink painting workshops at Lucia Espino’s art school in Madrid, digital watercolour and acrylic painting, and ongoing work with the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI).
Through Bilingual Beach Adventures, I hope to share my love of nature, languages, and storytelling, inspiring young readers to explore the world through words, illustrations, and imagination.
The Story Behind the Books
Bilingual Beach Adventures began from a personal desire to make language learning feel joyful, natural, and rewarding. I wanted a way to enjoy reading in other languages without constantly reaching for a dictionary. Bilingual children’s stories offer exactly that, using simple language, manageable text, illustrations, and side by side translations.
My inspiration comes from my own childhood, when I often struggled to stay motivated while learning languages because it felt overwhelming and difficult. I wanted to create something different, helping children and learners experience the fun and curiosity of discovering a new language in a gentle and encouraging way. Each book is carefully designed and illustrated by me using Procreate, allowing the pages to be clear, engaging, and easy for readers to follow.
I hope children in Norfolk and beyond can see their own experiences reflected in these stories, exploring the shore, connecting with nature, and developing curiosity about the world around them. By linking language learning with a love of nature, my hope is to inspire a sense of wonder, discovery, and confidence in young readers everywhere.

Each story in the Bilingual Beach Adventures series is brought to life with rich, detailed illustrations inspired by the beauty of Norfolk’s beaches. From sand dunes to wildlife, every page is carefully crafted to spark imagination and curiosity, inviting children to explore Norfolk’s natural world visually as well as through words.
Learning Through Play
Is reading considered play? Absolutely! These bilingual books turn stories into playful adventures, inviting children to explore key language concepts, including numbers 1–10 and animal vocabulary, while using their imagination. Parents can encourage cognitive play by testing new words or asking children to predict what happens next, helping build confidence, curiosity, and a love for reading.
